Performance Fleece

No matter where you live, or what kind of weather gets thrown your way... you always have to have your performance fleece.

Really, wearing this stuff can put you in once of two categories...

- Young Lifer (obviously)

and/ or

-Frat Boy or Sorority Girl

Among the most popular brands are The North Face, Patagonia (or Fratagonia as Blane likes to say), and Mountain Hardware. All of which will drain your pocket books, but keep you shielded from the elements.

Vests tend to be popular choices in summer time especially in Colorado. In the unpredictable weather one must be ready at all times... dress in layers... and shield your skin from the sun, (which is only 1 mile away when you are on top of the mountain) ... and look "outdoorsy."

Crazy Creek

Thing #2- Crazy Creek Chairs

Thank you Beckie Johns for the introduction to this wonderful invention. I recall trying to steal hers many times at various YL functions.

I finally got one of my own, it was a gift from YL of San Antonio. My crazy creek rocks. Ironically, mine has a nalgene holder built in. Coincidence.... hmmmmm?

The Nalgene

You really will be kicked out of Young Life if you don't own one. I own multiple, just to cover my bases.

Uses for the nalgene include but are not limited to:

-Drinking glass

-Duct tape holder - mostly for the Wilderness People

-Bragging bottle- to showcase all the places you have been with your evergrowing bumper sticker collection.

-Just by carrying one around with you, you are stating, I belong in Young Life.

- Stealing sweet tea from camp dining halls.

-I've even been known to put coffee in mine.

-To show your loyalty to your favorite YL camps.

The uses are endless.

Also, there are many kinds of nalgene users under the large Young Life umbrella. Items to consider when determining what kind of Nalgene you are:

-Bottle top or not?

-Splash gaurd or not?

-Color

-Number of ounces it can hold

-Logo or no logo?

-White or see through?

-Lid color in relation to bottle color

This past week was spent in Colorado with some of my favorite people. Somehow we got on the topic of this website called www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com - pretty hilarious website, which has since been made into a book.

... So I got to thinking

Inspired by the recent Young Life Ski Trip I will be embarking on a new series titled something along the lines of:

"Things Young Lifers Like or like to dislike" or "You know you love YL if..." ... or any other various and sundry ideas, suggestions are welcomed.

Not that anyone even reads this, I just want to document all this nonsense before it becomes a faded memory.
