Purell

Of course, this is the week where some unknown strain of the flu would hit... the week we all dread anyway, TAKS week. 4 solid days of being stuck in a classroom with teenagers who are stinky and "germy."

As I result I have invested in 4 bottles of purell this week, I can of Lysol to disinfect my desks each day, and a bottle of high powered cleaner to keep my own area and the door knob clean.

Knowing my luck I will be the one person who comes down with this stupid flu thing.

So tomorrow I get to sit in a room for about 6 hours with 32 freshman, wish me luck. I am contemplating wearing a bio hazard suit.

Dad

This picture of me and my Dad is possibly my favorite picture ever... I look at it all the time. I don't remember who took it, either Ashley or Summer, but either way I LOVE it. My Dad is the most giving person in the world... he would go to the ends of the Earth for us, I am sure of it. He works hard to make sure that Mom, Sis, and I have a better life than we could have ever dreamed. Even though I am married, he still insists on keeping his giving equal between me and sister. Blane is now in on the deal too.

Anyway I love my Dad, just thought I needed to write about that. Also, since my mom will have the bakery named after her I will have to name something on the menu after Dad... I am thinking his favorite cake or the piggies... as long as it is "real food and not that organic crap" he will be fine with it. :)

Call me Pele

So teachers are weird, this a quite obvious when you walk through the halls, but I have never done anything more strange that signing up to play in the faculty soccer game.

Lets get something straight here, I don't do anything that involves round, flying objects. My mom to this day talks about my lack of skill... in any sport. I played soccer at the YMCA when I was little, rather than playing I looked forward to picking flowers in the field and eating oranges at half time. I had a short, and miserable stint at softball. I would flinch each time the ball came my way, clearly not the attributes of a softball player. I also tried to play basketball, the only thing I liked was the maroon jersey, again at the YMCA.

So needless to say I am fearful of the soccer game tomorrow... I don't know anything about soccer, I don't even know how many people from one team play at once. Chances are I wont be making any waves, but in the off chance that it does happen... you can call me Pele.

I CANT laugh at that!

So my favorite show ever is the Office. If you watch it you know how hilarious it is, and often, I would say at least once an episode there is a "That's What She Said" joke. Inappropriate, yes. Stinkin' funny, ummm yeah.

So Blane and I have this ongoing competition of who can get the best "That's what she said" joke. I really do feel bad about it, but we mean no harm, just humor. So naturally I find these jokes real funny. So low and behold I was in class looking at some images of the Berlin Wall with my students last week. We were having a great class discussion about the wall, its symbolism, why it was there, and so on.

... until I said this. "I mean just look at how big it is." And out of the back corner I hear a voice, "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID."

I panicked. I cant laugh at that, I'm the teacher, the adult, the mature one. Yeah not so much. I turned as red as a my Kitchen Aid mixer and had to walk in the hall to regain my self control. It was one of those moments where time slows... my kids were all on the floor laughing at me, their teacher, who actually got their joke. And me, I'm trying to figure out how to resume class after that lovely incident. It is days like this one where I am glad to have the job I have, kids are so funny, although inappropriate, and they make my job worth it.

I have never had an answer to the question "Whats your most embarassing moment..." all that changed this week.

Life

Here are just a few of the "out of the norm" things that happened to me this week:

1. Saturday I was at Blane's JV baseball game. This old man was sitting in his fold out chair, cane in hand. Something happened to where he was ticked enough to start beating his cane into the ground, waving it in the air, yelling "What the f*** are you doing" ... "Put the coach on the bench"... OH NO he did not... He yelled, at my husband. I yelled back, "Watch what you say please." I was polite because I generally LOVE old people. Not this one though, he was barking up the wrong tree.

2. Thursday I had 5 missed calls all within a matter of 3 minutes. Never good. So I called my mom back, the news was chilly... literally. The 40 mile an hour wind that day had "unanchored" the dock on one side, so the boat and the dock were out of place. This is where I come in handy... I brave the cold water, swim the dock and boat back to its place, and nearly succumb to hypothermia. I lived.

3. Wednesday I took Rosco for a 2.5 mile run, which is no biggie for him. He is the poster dog for fitness (yeah right) but anyway... usually along the way he does his dog business, and I am that girl who doesn't pick up the dog poop because seriously who wants to run with a bag of poop for 2 miles. Not Kendall. But on this day no poop, and no guilt.

4. I forgot my lunch, EVERYDAY. Who does that?

5. Sunday, I had a dream that I bought a house from one of my students. This is the first time I can recall ever having a student in my dreams.

6. I did not see my sister. :( That rarely happens.

7. I left school everyday at 4:15 for the first time since football season. What a miracle.

8. I singed up for the Rock and Roll marathon (1/2) in November. I should have consulted my doctor to see if my brand new ACL could handle it... but I didn't. I made an irrational and expensive decision to run 13.1 miles without his consent. Sorry Dr. Curtis.

9. I cleaned out my closet. I have a hard time letting go of stuff, mainly clothes. I for whatever reason convince myself that I will wear that... even if it is only to work out in. So I made big strides this week when I got rid of 4 pairs of shoes that I am almost 100% sure I have had since freshman year of high school... that was 1999 people. Woah. Scary. I also got rid of some clothing from the same decade... I had trouble with this particularly because they still fit. But I had to put myself in the shoes of Stacy London... she screamed at me, THROW THEM OUT. So 3 trash bags later I was at Goodwill.

10. I found instant Organic oatmeal by Quaker, and it is delicious. So long icky Kashi oatmeal.
